CIEIF’s Manager, Peter Jenkins, was the lead guest in the webinar described below. The webinar also featured CIEIF grantee Maarten van Herpen describing his team’ exciting methane removal work.
Institute for Responsible Carbon Removal conducted a webinar in its series, “Scrubbing the Skies: The Role of Carbon Dioxide Removal in Combating Climate Change.” The series focuses on scientific, technological, legal, political, and justice-focused issues associated with carbon dioxide removal, and is hosted by the Institute’s Co-Director Wil Burns.
This webinar provides an overview of the Climate Intervention Environmental Impact Fund, which supports innovative investigators working on climate intervention approaches by making grants solely for predictive environmental impact assessments (EIA), impact modeling studies, and stakeholder engagement for small-scale field tests. CIEIF has awarded ten grants since 2023. These have included funding to assess the environmental effects of: 1) pumping seawater on ice to thicken it, 2) capturing methane from wastewater plants, and 3) enhanced rock weathering, and several other interventions. In addition to discussing the Fund’s focus and application procedures, the webinar will include a presentation by Dr. Maarten van Herpen of Acacia Impact Innovation – a recent CIEIF grantee – discussing its efforts to model the impacts of atmospheric methane removal to reduce radiative forcing.
